Chasing the dream of flying infinitely without stopping to replace batteries or refuel, MRWATT has studied and produced a model aircraft completely powered by solar energy using the latest generation monocrystalline cells.
The "SOLAR DR1" model (in honor of the creators) is capable of powering itself with a 20s solar cell configuration equal to approximately 10V and about 5A.
The flight duration depends exclusively on the presence of the sun and the battery life of the transmitter.
Other commercial models do not have the same weight and aerodynamics characteristics and cannot be adapted for this purpose.
For beginners and safe flights, it is recommended to use the UBEC and the LiPo battery (included in the kit) to power the receiving apparatus exclusively for hours and hours of safe flight.
The V-tail has been removed from the kit because it creates shadow zones on the cells and compromises, like the winglets, the excellent performance. Therefore, the model uses the elevon configuration and allows you to perform basic acrobatic maneuvers (looping, barrel roll, etc.).
To take it to the air, only the rx and tx apparatus are needed.
The Assembly Box contains everything needed to bring the SOLAR DR1 into flight, including an illustrated manual that we will provide in the KIT.
The assembly does not require great experience but just a bit of skill in handling glue, tape, and a cutter.
The CNC-cut wing is presented inside its shells; you just need to slide it out, insert the carbon spar, and glue everything with polyurethane or two-component epoxy; The assembly of the ailerons, also CNC-cut, is very simple and intuitive.
The fuselage consists of several pieces of 6mm depron cut by CNC, and its assembly is within everyone's reach.
The solar cells (22 in the kit, of which 2 are spare) must be handled with great care and soldered in series with a total 20s configuration but 10s per wing arranged in a 5 x 5 rectangle.
For fixing the cells on the wing, you can use simple neutral silicone or equally economical double-sided tape.
To ensure long panel life, the cells are brushed with our product included in the kit.
Once the servos are mounted in the fuselage in the position indicated in the manual and the motor and regulator are connected, you are ready to fly.
