Why air conditioning should be planned together with solar PV
Cooling demand peaks in the middle of summer days, exactly when PV modules produce the most. An inverter air conditioner modulates its power instead of cycling on and off, so it can absorb the energy produced by your roof rather than drawing it from the grid. With a battery storage system, the same energy also covers the evening hours.
What to check before buying
Cooling capacity: size it on floor area, orientation and insulation of the rooms, not on square metres alone.
Energy class, SEER and SCOP: they express seasonal efficiency in cooling and in heating.
Single split or multi split: one outdoor unit per indoor unit, or a single outdoor unit serving several rooms.
Installation: the refrigerant circuit must be connected by an F-gas certified technician.
