SE-CT-SPL-250A-A
250 A split-core current transformer (CT) by SolarEdge, used to measure production and consumption with the Energy Meter with Modbus connection. Output 333 mVac at rated current, accuracy ±1%.
The split core clamps around the existing conductor without breaking the circuit: internal aperture 24×25 mm, 50/60 Hz, indoor use. Direct 1:1 replacement for the previous SE-ACT-0750-250.
The SE-CT-SPL-250A-A is SolarEdge's 250 A split-core current transformer, the accessory required for the Energy Meter with Modbus connection to measure production, consumption, export or import currents in a PV system. It is the correct rating for commercial and industrial supplies drawing up to 250 A.
Why does a PV system need a current transformer?
The SolarEdge energy meter does not read line current directly: it reads it through one or more current transformers. Without CTs the system cannot calculate self-consumption or exported energy, nor run functions such as export limitation or load control. The split-core design clamps onto cable already in place, so it does not require cutting or disconnecting the main conductor — equally suited to new builds and retrofits on existing switchboards.

How many CTs does my system need?
One CT is required per phase being measured: one on a single-phase system, three on a three-phase system. If the energy meter has to measure two quantities at once (for example production and grid exchange) the count doubles. The rating is chosen on the maximum current of the supply conductor, not on inverter power: up to 250 A this is the correct model, below 100 A use the SE-CT-SPL-100A-A.
Installation notes
- Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
- Connect the CT leads to the meter before energising the system.
- Never leave the secondary open-circuited while the primary is live.
- Observe the arrow direction printed on the CT with respect to current flow.
- Clamp the CT around a single conductor: on a multicore cable the currents cancel out and the reading is zero.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to disconnect the cables to fit the 250 A CT?
No. The core opens: unclip it, place it around the existing conductor and snap it shut, with no need to cut the cable. The installation must still be de-energised during the work and wiring must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
What cable or busbar size fits through it?
The internal aperture is 24 × 25 mm. Check the outer diameter of the conductor or the busbar cross-section it has to clamp around: if the fit is borderline, move up to the 1000 A size, because the CT must close fully to measure correctly.
Is it compatible with the older SE-ACT-0750-250 CT?
Yes. The SE-CT-SPL-250A-A is the direct 1:1 replacement for the previous SE-ACT-0750-250, in a smaller body and easier to install. It requires no change to the meter configuration or to existing wiring.
Can it be mounted outdoors?
The CT is rated for indoor use. It can only be installed in an outdoor cabinet if the enclosure provides an adequate protection rating and shields the component from water, dust and direct sunlight.
How many 250 A CTs are needed on a three-phase system?
Three, one per phase. If the energy meter must measure both PV production and grid exchange, two sets are required — six CTs in total — with a dedicated meter for each measurement.
