The QIT6 is the single-phase AC electrical panel for 6 kWp photovoltaic systems in the standard SECSUN range. Compared to the Light version (QIT6L), the QIT6 integrates an additional two-pole isolator that allows you to physically isolate the AC circuit quickly and safely during maintenance on the system or the inverter, without having to operate the residual current circuit breaker. The enclosure is made of insulating material, IP65 class II, and the panel is supplied pre-wired and ready to use.

Isolator and protection: the difference between QIT6 and QIT6L

The QIT6 adds to the QIT6L protection circuit a two-pole load-break isolator, a key component to ensure the safety of technical work on the system. The isolator allows the AC circuit to be opened in a visible and lockable way, creating a certifiable galvanic separation between the grid and the inverter — a requirement of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and CEI EN 50110 electrical safety standards. Without the isolator (as in the QIT6L), the only opening device is the RCBO, which is not designed to be used as a maintenance isolator. The QIT6 is therefore the recommended choice for business installations, apartment buildings, or public places where multiple operators may work on the system.

When to choose QIT6 instead of QIT6L

The choice between QIT6 and QIT6L depends on the type of installation and maintenance requirements:

  • QIT6: suitable for business systems, apartment buildings, public facilities, or anywhere it is necessary to ensure operator safety during maintenance with a lockable isolation point. Also recommended when CEI EN 50110 inspections or electrical audits are expected.
  • QIT6L: a more compact and cost-effective solution for simple residential installations where isolation is ensured by other means (e.g., isolator on the main switchboard) and local separation is not required.

Compatibility with single-phase inverters

The QIT6 is compatible with any single-phase photovoltaic inverter up to 6 kW, regardless of manufacturer: Solax X1, Huawei SUN2000-3/4/5/6KTL, Solis Mini, Fronius Primo, Growatt, Goodwe ES, ABB UNO, FIMER and others. The class A RCD ensures proper protection also for inverters with EMI filters that generate leakage currents with a DC component, in compliance with CEI 64-8.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between QIT6 and QIT6L?

The QIT6 includes an additional two-pole load-break isolator compared to the QIT6L (Light version). The isolator allows the AC circuit to be physically and visibly isolated during inverter maintenance, without having to use the RCBO as an isolation device. It is an important component for operator safety and for compliance with CEI EN 50110 standards in professional installations.

Does the QIT6 include the CEI 0-21 interface relay?

No. The QIT6 is an AC protection-only panel, without a CEI 0-21 interface relay. For systems connected to the Italian public grid that require an approved interface panel, it is necessary to purchase a panel from the range with an integrated interface, or check whether the inverter has an internal interface function certified by the local distributor (e.g., E-Distribuzione, ACEA, A2A).

Can I use the QIT6 isolator as a maintenance device?

Yes. The QIT6 two-pole load-break isolator is designed to open the AC circuit safely under load, ensuring galvanic separation between the grid and the inverter. It is possible to add a padlock to the isolator to lock it in the open position during work (LOTO procedure), in compliance with CEI EN 50110 electrical safety standards and CEI 11-27 for electrical work.

Which RCBO rating should I choose for the QIT6?

The rating depends on the rated current of the single-phase inverter. For 6 kW at 230V the current is about 26A: 32A rating with a safety margin. For 3–4 kW inverters (current 13–17A) a 20A or 25A rating is sufficient. Always check the rated AC output current on your inverter datasheet and apply a 25% safety factor as indicated by CEI 64-8.

Can the QIT6 be installed outdoors?

Yes. The IP65 rating and class II construction make it suitable for outdoor installation, protected from dust and water jets. Class II eliminates the need to earth the enclosure. Preferably install it sheltered from direct sunlight and standing water to extend the service life of the internal components.
