The ZCS Azzurro ZV3-CBL-T2T2-5M charging cable is a Mode 3 Type 2 to Type 2 three-phase 32 A cable, 5 m long, for connecting an electric car to wallboxes and charging points with a Type 2 socket. It carries current on all three phases and allows charging at up to 22 kW, the maximum for AC charging.

Why choose the three-phase cable

A three-phase cable is backward compatible: plugged into a single-phase socket it simply works on one phase, while a single-phase cable on a three-phase charging point always limits charging to 7.4 kW. That makes it the cable to keep in the boot if you often charge at public AC charging points, most of which in Europe are 22 kW three-phase. Keep in mind that the actual power is set by the car's on-board charger. Many cars accept 11 kW AC and only a few reach 22 kW: with an 11 kW car the three-phase cable still halves charging times compared with single-phase, but will not go beyond 11 kW.

Single-phase or three-phase: how to choose

  • Car with a three-phase on-board charger (11 or 22 kW): three-phase cable, always.
  • Single-phase-only car that always charges at home on a single-phase wallbox: the lighter single-phase ZV1-CBL-T2T2-5M is enough.
  • Company fleets and frequently changing cars: three-phase cable, because it covers every case.

Frequently asked questions

Will my car always charge at 22 kW with this cable?

No. Charging takes place at the lowest power among charging point, cable and on-board charger. Most electric cars accept 11 kW three-phase AC; only some models reach 22 kW. The cable is never the bottleneck, but it does not raise the power the car can accept.

Does it also work on my single-phase home wallbox?

Yes. On a single-phase Type 2 socket the cable uses one phase and the car charges at up to 7.4 kW, exactly as with a single-phase cable.

How many kilometres do I add in one hour?

With a car that accepts 11 kW you add about 11 kWh per hour, roughly 55-70 km of range per hour at a consumption of 16-20 kWh/100 km. At 22 kW, with a compatible car, the figure doubles.

Why is it heavier than the single-phase cable?

A three-phase cable has five power conductors (three phases, neutral and earth) instead of three, so it is thicker and weighs about half a kilo more. In return it works with any Type 2 socket.

Can it be used for DC fast charging?

No. DC fast charging uses CCS2 or CHAdeMO connectors with a cable tethered to the charger; a Type 2 to Type 2 cable is for AC charging only.
