The SolarEdge SE3500H-RW000BEN4 is a 3.500 VA single-phase inverter with HD-Wave technology and a maximum efficiency of 99,2%. It is the mid-size model in the range, the one chosen when the meter has been upgraded to 4,5 kW or when the available roof area exceeds what a 3 kW unit could effectively make use of.
When it is worth choosing over the 3 kW
The difference between SE3000H and SE3500H is not just the 500 VA of output: above all, the accepted DC power limit changes, increasing from 6.000 to 7.000 W. If the project includes more than 6 kWp of modules, the 3500H is the necessary choice even if the connection power remains the same. Conversely, with a 3 kW domestic meter and a small roof, the extra 500 VA will not provide any financial benefit: it is worth checking this before spending more.
Optimizers are mandatory, not optional
Like the entire SolarEdge range, the SE3500H does not work as a traditional string inverter: a SolarEdge power optimizer is required on every module. This is the most common misunderstanding in price comparisons with competitors. However, the return is tangible: the string voltage remains constant at 380 V regardless of irradiance and temperature, so there is no MPPT window to respect, strings can have different lengths, and each module works at its own maximum power point even if the adjacent one is shaded.
Installation and safety
With a 7,8 kg weight and dimensions of 280 x 370 x 142 mm, the SE3500H can be wall-mounted without special equipment. The IP65 rating allows outdoor use, while noise below 25 dBA, thanks to natural convection cooling with no fans, also makes it suitable for an occupied room. DC arc fault protection is integrated and the SafeDC function reduces the string voltage to non-hazardous values when the inverter is switched off, a feature that carries weight in fire safety assessments. The warranty is 12 years, extendable to 20 or 25.

Frequently asked questions
Is the SE3000H or the SE3500H better?
It depends on how many modules are installed, not on the meter power. The SE3000H accepts up to 6.000 W of DC power, while the SE3500H accepts up to 7.000 W: if the photovoltaic array exceeds 6 kWp, the 3500H is required. If, on the other hand, the roof is small and the meter is 3 kW, the extra 500 VA provides no financial advantage.
Can I install it without optimizers?
No. SolarEdge inverters require a SolarEdge power optimizer on every photovoltaic module: without them, the constant string voltage is not generated and the system will not start operating. The cost of the optimizers must therefore always be included when comparing it with a traditional string inverter.
Do all strings need to have the same number of modules?
No, and this is one of the main advantages of the SolarEdge architecture. Since the string voltage is kept constant by the optimizers, strings of different lengths can coexist on the same input, within the minimum and maximum limits indicated by SolarEdge Designer. On roofs with multiple pitches or irregular surfaces, this avoids wasting useful positions.
Is it noisy? Can I put it inside the house?
Cooling is by natural convection, with no fans, and the declared noise level remains below 25 dBA: a value comparable to the rustle of a quiet room. It can therefore be installed in a storage room, garage or attic without causing disturbance. The IP65 rating also allows outdoor installation, preferably not exposed to direct sunlight throughout the day.
Does it comply with CEI 0-21 for the connection application?
Yes, CEI 0-21 is among the connection standards declared by the manufacturer, an essential requirement for the procedure with the distributor in Italy. With 3,5 kW, it also remains well below the 11,08 kW threshold above which an external interface panel with SPI relay, interface device and test report would be required: here, the protection integrated into the inverter is sufficient.
