SolarEdge SE3000H Single-Phase 3 kW HD-Wave Inverter
3.000 VA single-phase photovoltaic inverter with HD-Wave technology and maximum efficiency of 99,2%. Accepts up to 6.000 W of DC power input (200% oversizing), weighs only 7,8 kg and is IP65 with noise levels below 25 dBA. Commissioning via smartphone with SetApp, 12-year warranty extendable to 25. Requires SolarEdge optimizers on each module.
The SolarEdge SE3000H-RW000BEN4 is a 3 kW single-phase inverter with HD-Wave technology, the generation that brought maximum efficiency to 99,2% while drastically reducing weight and footprint: 7,8 kg for a unit that can be wall-mounted without assistance. It is the most common size in Italian residential installations, because it matches the standard 3 kW domestic connection power.
Before ordering: optimizers are not an accessory
This is the point where mistakes are most often made. SolarEdge inverters do not work like traditional string inverters: they require a SolarEdge power optimizer on each photovoltaic module. It is not an option to consider for improving performance; it is an operating requirement. Anyone comparing the price of an SE3000H with that of a conventional string inverter is comparing two different things: the cost of the optimizers must be added to the cost of the inverter.
In return, you get something traditional inverters cannot provide: constant string voltage at 380 V. The MPPT window to comply with disappears, the Voc calculations at the minimum temperature on the inverter disappear, strings can be longer and can have different lengths from one another. On complex roofs, typical of Italian buildings, this design freedom is valuable.
200% DC oversizing: the real reason to choose it
The SE3000H accepts up to 6.000 W of DC input power compared with 3.000 VA output. This means that on a 3 kW domestic meter, twice the module power can be installed, widening the production curve in the early morning and late afternoon instead of chasing the midday peak. For those with storage or evening consumption, it is the most cost-effective way to increase the energy actually self-consumed without changing the connection power.
What to expect on site
Commissioning is done from a smartphone with the SetApp app: the inverter has no display, and this is a deliberate SolarEdge choice that should be known in advance. On the other hand, the IP65 rating and noise level below 25 dBA, with natural convection cooling, make it suitable for installation even in a living space or attic without noise issues. DC arc fault protection is integrated, and the SafeDC function lowers the string voltage to safe values when the inverter is off.
The standard warranty is 12 years, extendable to 20 or 25: two years more than most of the market offers at no additional cost.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the SE3000H without SolarEdge optimizers?
No. SolarEdge inverters are designed to work exclusively with SolarEdge power optimizers installed on each module: without them, the constant string voltage at 380 V is not generated and the system does not work. The budget must therefore include one optimizer per module, or one for every two modules if using the commercial series on larger systems.
How many kWp of modules can I connect to a 3 kW inverter?
Up to 6.000 W of DC power, i.e. twice the rated output power. This is the 200% oversizing allowed by SolarEdge. In practice, on a residential system with a 3 kW meter, around 6 kWp of modules can be installed: peak production is limited by the inverter, but mornings, evenings and overcast days produce much more, and with storage the excess energy is not wasted.
Is an interface panel with SPI and test report required?
No. With 3 kW, you are well below the 11,08 kW threshold set by CEI 0-21 for the simplified procedure, so the interface protection integrated in the inverter is sufficient and the manufacturer’s declaration is enough. The inverter is CEI 0-21 certified, an essential requirement for the connection procedure with the distributor in Italy.
Since it has no display, how do I check the system?
The initial configuration is carried out by connecting the smartphone to the inverter via the SetApp app, so a phone with the app already installed is needed on site. Daily monitoring is instead performed from the SolarEdge portal and app, with detail down to individual module level thanks to the optimizers: a level of visibility that an inverter with a local display does not offer.
Can I add a battery later?
The SE3000H is a photovoltaic inverter, not a hybrid: adding storage requires dedicated components and must be checked against the current SolarEdge compatibility documentation, because the solutions have changed over time. If storage is already planned in the project, the most straightforward route is to start with an inverter from the Home Hub line, which integrates battery management and backup readiness.
