Huawei SmartLogger 3000A01EU Data Logger
The Huawei SmartLogger 3000A01EU is the data logger for centralised monitoring of photovoltaic systems with up to 80 devices (SUN2000 inverters, LUNA2000 batteries, sensors), integrated with FusionSolar.
Integrated 4G, Ethernet WAN/LAN, 3 RS485 ports up to 1,000 m, Modbus-TCP and IEC 60870-5-104, web server and export limitation function (requires a meter). IP20 indoor, -40/+60 °C. Version without PLC module: for powerline use the 3000A03EU.
The Huawei SmartLogger 3000A01EU is the professional data logger of the FusionSolar ecosystem: it collects production data from the entire system, sends it to the cloud and — above all — is the device through which grid export limitation is controlled. It manages up to 80 devices among SUN2000 inverters, LUNA2000 batteries, SmartGuard and sensors.
A01EU or A03EU: one difference, but it matters
The two versions share interfaces, capacity and functions. The only difference is the PLC/MBUS module, which lets inverters communicate over the existing electrical wiring instead of a dedicated data line:
- A01EU (this model): without PLC. It is the correct choice when the inverters are reachable via RS485 — up to 1,000 metres — or via Ethernet. It costs less.
- A03EU: with PLC. Needed when running a data cable between logger and inverters is impractical, typically on distributed systems or in retrofits where the conduits are already full.
The decision is made by looking at the site, not the price list: if the RS485 line can be laid, the PLC module is a cost that adds nothing.
Zero-export: the logger alone is not enough
The export limitation function is built in and is one of the main reasons this device ends up in a system: several grid operators require it when grid injection is not authorised or is capped. But it must be said clearly that the logger measures nothing by itself: to regulate inverter power it needs to know the flow at the connection point, so an energy meter connected to the logger's ports is required. Without that component the function stays inactive.
A common misunderstanding should also be cleared up: the SmartLogger does not replace the grid interface protection. Above the local power threshold for interface protection, regulations still require an interface protection relay, an interface device and a test report: these are two distinct functions, one for management and one for protection.

Eighty devices, but thirty per port
The 80-device limit is the total; what decides the wiring is the other number: a maximum of 30 devices on each of the 3 RS485 ports. On a system with many inverters the distribution across the three lines must be planned at design stage, because an overloaded chain lengthens polling times and makes monitoring less responsive. If the devices exceed 80, the way forward is the SmartLogger 3000B, which reaches 150.

Frequently asked questions
How many inverters can I connect?
Up to 80 devices in total, with a maximum of 30 on each of the three RS485 ports. The count includes SUN2000 inverters, LUNA2000 batteries, SmartGuard and sensors: not only inverters. Above 80 devices the SmartLogger 3000B is required, managing 150.
Is the logger enough for zero-export?
No. The function is built in, but it requires an energy meter connected to the logger to measure the exchange at the connection point. Without that measurement the system does not know how much power to limit, and the function cannot be used.
Does it replace the grid interface protection panel?
No, they are different things. Above the local interface-protection threshold, regulations require external interface protection with an SPI relay, an interface device and a test report: the logger manages and monitors, it does not protect. Both must be provided.
How is it commissioned?
With the FusionSolar app for iOS and Android, connecting to the logger via Wi-Fi: the guided procedure automatically detects the inverters on the RS485 line. Alternatively a notebook is used on the LAN port. No proprietary software needs to be installed.
Can it be mounted outdoors?
No. The protection rating is IP20: the device must be installed indoors or inside an enclosure. It does withstand a very wide temperature range, from -40 to +60 °C, so an unconditioned technical room is not a problem.
