The Icierre QAC 6/8 kW AC panel is the AC protection panel for three-phase photovoltaic systems up to 8 kW, with a rated current of 16 A at 400 V. It brings together in a single IP65 box with 18 DIN modules the protections that must be installed downstream of the inverter according to CEI 0-21 and CEI 64-8: residual-current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection, surge protection device, and input and output terminal blocks.

AC panel or interface panel? The key difference

Below the 11,08 kW threshold, CEI 0-21 allows the simplified connection procedure: the interface protection (SPI) integrated in the certified inverter is sufficient, and an external relay with a dedicated interface device is not required. For this reason, the QAC 6/8 kW does not include SPI, DDI contactor or test report: on this size, they would be components paid for and never used. It is a protection panel, not an interface panel. If the system exceeds 11,08 kW, it is necessary to move to the QAC 12/15 kW sizes and above, where DDI, SPI and test report are actually included.

Sizing: why exactly 16 A

An 8 kW three-phase system delivers approximately 11,5 A per phase in normal operation (8.000 W ÷ 400 V ÷ 1,732); at 6 kW it drops to about 8,7 A. The IMTD 4x16 A therefore operates with the correct margin: high enough above the operating current to avoid nuisance tripping on peak production days, yet close enough to remain a real protection for the connection cable. The residual-current protection is class A, 300 mA, the type required on lines supplied by inverters because it can detect alternating and pulsating unidirectional fault currents.

Does the QAC 6/8 kW contain the SPI interface protection?

No, and this is not a defect. CEI 0-21 provides for the simplified procedure for systems up to 11,08 kW, in which the interface protection integrated in the certified inverter performs the required function. The panel therefore contains only the line protections: IMTD 4x16 A class A and SPD surge protection device.

Can I use it on a 10 kW photovoltaic system?

From a regulatory point of view, yes, because 10 kW remains below the 11,08 kW of the simplified procedure, but the output current would rise to approximately 14,4 A per phase, too close to the 16 A of the circuit breaker. For 8-11 kW, the 20 A QAC 8/11 kW size is preferable, which also adds the input/output disconnect switch.

Does the panel arrive already wired or does it need to be assembled?

It arrives wired and factory-tested, with input and output terminal blocks already prepared. The installer only needs to mount the box, connect the incoming cables from the inverter and the outgoing cables to the delivery point, and complete the documentation with the supplied single-line diagram.

Is a surge protection device really needed on a small system?

Yes. A photovoltaic system is an extended antenna exposed to overvoltages induced by indirect lightning strikes, and the inverter electronics are the most expensive and most fragile component in the chain. The class II 15 kA SPD surge protection device limits the impulse reaching the AC side of the inverter and household loads.

Which documents are needed for the connection application with this panel?

For the simplified procedure, the system single-line diagram and the panel declaration of conformity Di.co are required (both supplied with the product), along with the inverter's CEI 0-21 certificate of conformity with its integrated interface protection, and the distributor's operating regulations. The SPI test report is not required for this size.
