The Huawei LUNA2000-5-E1 is the next-generation lithium battery module from the LUNA2000 family, designed for photovoltaic energy storage in residential and commercial settings. With a usable capacity of 5 kWh and a 100% DoD (Depth of Discharge), it maximizes self-consumption of the energy produced by the photovoltaic system, drastically reducing withdrawals from the grid.

E1 Generation: what's new compared to E0

The -E1 version is the latest revision of the 5 kWh LUNA2000 series and features substantial improvements over the previous -E0:

  • Compatibility with LUNA2000-7-E1 7 kWh battery modules — flexible 5+7 kWh combination under a single BMS
  • Module+ architecture with integrated energy optimizer for each module
  • Extended operating temperature: from -20°C to +55°C
  • Improved IP protection for installations in more exposed environments

Note: The LUNA2000-5-E1 is not backward compatible with the LUNA2000-5-E0 series.

Module+ Architecture — independent optimization for each module

Each LUNA2000-5-E1 battery module integrates its own energy optimizer, managing it independently from the other modules in the same tower. This brings concrete advantages:

  • Expansion without losses — you can add new modules to already used ones without compromising overall performance
  • More recoverable energy — usable energy can increase by over 10% over the lifecycle compared to systems without optimization
  • Fast charging — 3.5 kW per single module, up to 10.5 kW per group (3 modules)

5-level safety

The LUNA2000-5-E1 protection system operates on five distinct levels:

  • Cell level — inherently stable LiFePO4 chemistry, with no risk of thermal runaway typical of NMC
  • Electrical level — protection against overcurrent, short circuit at string and module level
  • Structural level — separate compartments for cells and optimizers with thermal insulation
  • Active protection — 4 temperature sensors every 8 cells, continuous 24/7 monitoring with pre-alarm
  • Emergency protection — active pressure release technology to reduce oxygen concentration and prevent fires

Silent operation and intelligent management

The fanless thermal management system ensures a noise level of only 29 dB — equivalent to a whisper — making the battery suitable for installation even in living spaces. Through the Huawei FusionSolar app, you can monitor energy flows, state of charge, yields in real time, and set customized operating modes (TOU, maximum self-consumption, grid feed-in).

The LUNA2000-5-E1 is compatible with Huawei SUN2000 series inverters, in particular:

  • SUN2000 series L1 (single-phase residential)
  • SUN2000 series M0 and M1 (three-phase residential and commercial)
  • SUN2000 series MB0 — supports up to 4 groups in parallel for maximum system capacity
