X1-EPS BOX

The SolaX X1-EPS Box is the automatic switching box that enables the EPS (Emergency Power Supply) function in single-phase hybrid inverters SolaX X1-Hybrid G4. In the event of a blackout, it automatically switches within 0.5 seconds to emergency power from photovoltaic and battery sources, keeping priority loads active. It features a pre-wired double contactor and IP65 protection rating.

The SolaX X1-EPS Box is the essential accessory for anyone who wants to fully utilize the backup function of their single-phase hybrid inverter SolaX X1-Hybrid G4. Thanks to this switching box, the photovoltaic system with storage can automatically and quickly isolate itself from the public grid, ensuring electrical continuity for priority loads even during power outages.

How does the SolaX X1-EPS Box work?

The EPS Box integrates two pre-wired power contactors that manage the switching between grid power and EPS mode (emergency off-grid). When a grid outage is detected, the box isolates the emergency circuit from the public grid and powers it with energy from the battery and photovoltaic system via the inverter's EPS output. When the grid is restored, the box safely closes the contactor, reconnecting the system to the grid.

The switching time is about 0.5 seconds, which is sufficient for almost all non-critical household and commercial loads (lights, refrigerator, router, small heat pumps).

When is the EPS Box necessary?

The EPS function is integrated into the X1-Hybrid G4 inverter, but to activate it on a dedicated circuit, it is mandatory to install the X1-EPS Box (or alternatively the X1-Matebox Advanced). Without this accessory, the inverter's EPS output is not connected to the home electrical panel and the backup function is not operational. The EPS Box is the simplest and most economical solution to enable backup on already installed or newly installed single-phase residential systems.

What is included in the supply?

  • X1-EPS switching box with integrated double contactor
  • SolaX installation instructions

Not included: connection cables, residual current circuit breakers, installation electrical materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the SolaX X1-EPS Box compatible with all X1-Hybrid inverters?

The X1-EPS Box is designed for SolaX X1-Hybrid G4 single-phase hybrid inverters. It is compatible with the X1-Hybrid E version (version with dedicated EPS output). For the three-phase X3-Hybrid models, you need to use the X3-EPS Box. Always check compatibility with the exact inverter model number before purchasing.

How long does the EPS Box take to switch in case of a blackout?

The switching time is about 0.5 seconds. This value is sufficient for most household loads (refrigerator, lights, router, TV). Loads with modern switching power supplies usually resume operation without problems. For critical loads with stricter continuity requirements (UPS, medical equipment), it is advisable to consider dedicated UPS solutions in parallel.

Can I use the X1-EPS Box without a battery, only with photovoltaics?

Yes, but with limitations. The Super-Backup function of the SolaX X1-Hybrid G4 (firmware ARM ≥ 1.44, DSP ≥ 1.48) allows you to power EPS loads exclusively with photovoltaic energy, without a battery. The available power in EPS mode without a battery is limited to 50% of the inverter's nominal EPS power. The function is disabled by default and must be manually activated from the inverter menu.

What is the difference between the X1-EPS Box and the X1-Matebox?

The X1-EPS Box is a switching box dedicated exclusively to the EPS function, economical and simple to install on already wired systems. The X1-Matebox (Basic or Advanced), on the other hand, is an integrated panel that also includes wiring between the inverter and battery, simplifying the entire installation. The Matebox Advanced also includes the EPS function for the whole house (whole-home backup). The choice depends on the system configuration and how much wiring work has already been done.

Does the installation of the X1-EPS Box require a qualified electrician?

Yes. The X1-EPS Box must be installed by a qualified electrical installer (CEI 64-8 standard) and a certified SolaX installer. Connecting the EPS output to the home electrical panel requires modification of the distribution circuit and verification of protection selectivity. Incorrect installation voids the inverter warranty and may compromise system safety.
