SolaX X3-PRO-20K-G2 Three-Phase Inverter 20 kW
The SolaX X3-PRO-20K-G2 is a 20 kW three-phase string photovoltaic inverter that accepts up to 30 kWp of PV array with just 2 MPPT, maximum efficiency of 98,3% and IP66 rating. It is the largest size in the X3-PRO G2 range with two trackers: ideal for roofs with only two slopes, and to be carefully assessed on fragmented roofs.
The SolaX X3-PRO-20K-G2 inverter is a 20 kW three-phase string photovoltaic inverter for medium-sized commercial and industrial systems: warehouses, farms, accommodation facilities, sports centers. In the X3-PRO G2 range, which goes up to 30 kW, it is the model that marks the boundary of the two-tracker architecture.
30 kWp on just two MPPTs: the constraint no one declares
The 20 kW accepts up to 30 kWp of photovoltaic array, about 66 modules of 450 Wp, but manages them with only 2 MPPTs with 2 strings each: four strings in total, about 16-17 modules each, and only two independent orientations. On an industrial roof with two slopes, it is the perfect and most economical configuration. On a fragmented roof, with multiple sheds or different exposures, the inverter cannot track each group separately and yield drops during the hours when the roof sections do not work together. In that case, the 25 kW, which increases to 3 MPPTs, or two smaller units should be considered.

Grid connection and CEI 0-21 requirements
With 20 kW rated power and 22 kVA maximum apparent power, the system is well above the 11,08 kW threshold: the connection procedure requires an interface panel with SPI relay, external interface device and test report. At this size, the available export power at the low-voltage connection point must also be checked with the distributor, as it does not always match the withdrawal power. The integrated export control, combined with an energy meter, makes it possible to comply with an imposed export limit without giving up self-consumption.
Maintenance and service life in industrial environments
The IP66 rating allows outdoor installation even in dusty or agricultural environments, but cooling is by forced ventilation: the grilles must be checked periodically, especially near barns, silos or processes that generate dust. The inverter operates between -30 and +60 °C with power derating above 45 °C: on a roof, under direct sunlight and without shading, summer derating is a real design factor. A north-facing wall or a ventilated room is preferable.
Frequently asked questions
Is the X3-PRO-20K-G2 the most powerful model in the range?
No. The X3-PRO G2 series includes 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 20, 25 and 30 kW sizes. The 20 kW is the largest model with a 2 MPPT architecture: above this size, with the 25 and 30 kW, SolaX moves to 3 trackers and a maximum efficiency of 98,5%.
How many panels can I install on an X3-PRO-20K-G2?
Up to 30 kWp recommended, about 66 modules of 450 Wp, distributed over 4 strings (2 for each of the 2 MPPTs). Each tracker allows 32 A of operating current and 40 A short-circuit current: with high-Isc modules, it must be checked that the sum of the two parallel strings remains below the limit.
Can I manage three roof sections with different orientations?
Not independently: there are two MPPTs, so there are two separate tracking channels. A third group must be combined, with a loss of yield when the roof sections do not produce synchronously. For three exposures, it is advisable to move to the 25 kW with 3 MPPTs or split the system across two inverters.
What documentation is needed to connect a 20 kW system?
In addition to the connection request to the distributor, the single-line diagram, the system declaration of conformity, the inverter datasheet with grid certifications and the test report of the interface protection system are required, mandatory above 11,08 kW. The protection documentation must be produced for the installed SPI panel, not for the inverter.
Is a DC field panel needed with this inverter?
The inverter integrates a DC disconnector and Type II SPD on the DC side, so a panel with only surge arresters is redundant. A field panel remains useful when fuses and disconnection of individual strings are needed for maintenance, or when the distance between the photovoltaic array and the inverter is such that intermediate protection is required.
