SMA Data Manager M EDMM-20 – PV Monitoring up to 50 Inverters
SMA Data Manager M EDMM-20: professional monitoring and control system for commercial PV plants. Manages up to 50 devices (inverters, batteries, meters, EV charger) and plants up to 2.5 MVA. Native integration with Sunny Portal ennexOS. LAN, WLAN, RS485 interfaces. DIN rail mounting — 1 kg.
The SMA Data Manager M EDMM-20 is the professional monitoring, control and energy management system for decentralized commercial and industrial photovoltaic plants. As the central element of the SMA ecosystem, it connects up to 50 devices—inverters, storage systems, meters, sensors and EV charging stations—into a single integrated management platform with Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS, accessible remotely via browser or mobile app.
Why choose Data Manager M for your PV system?
In commercial and industrial photovoltaic plants, having real-time visibility of inverter performance, energy produced and consumed, and compliance with grid requirements is essential both for maintenance and for reporting to GSE, grid operators and end customers. The EDMM-20 centralizes all these functions in a single device, eliminating the need for multiple separate dataloggers and drastically simplifying commissioning and system management.

Key features EDMM-20
- Real-time monitoring: display of production, consumption, self-consumption and energy fed into the grid for all connected devices
- Power control at the point of connection: management of active and reactive power in compliance with grid operator requirements (P(f), Q(V), fixed cosφ)
- Remote parameterization: change inverter and battery parameters via Sunny Portal without physical access to the plant
- Local Time Scheduler: scheduling of charge and discharge profiles for battery systems (SBS, SI, STPS)
- Virtual generators: automatic acquisition of data from energy meters (PV, cogeneration, gas meters, hydroelectric)
- Scalability: multiple EDMM-20 units can be configured in cascade as secondary System Managers for large-scale plants
- Assisted commissioning: intuitive assistance functions significantly reduce on-site commissioning time
Compatibility with SMA products
The EDMM-20 is designed to integrate natively with the entire SMA range: Sunny Tripower and Sunny Tripower CORE2 inverters (Modbus SunSpec), Sunny Boy Storage and Sunny Island storage systems, SMA Energy Meter meters, and SMA EV Charger Business charging stations. It also supports third-party inverters compatible with Modbus SunSpec.
Difference between EDMM-10 and EDMM-20
The EDMM-10 is the previous version of the Data Manager M, supporting up to 30 devices. The EDMM-20 is the updated version with support for up to 50 devices and full compatibility with advanced ennexOS features. Both versions are still supported and compatible with the same Sunny Portal platform.
Frequently asked questions
Is the power supply included with the EDMM-20?
No. The EDMM-20 does not include the power supply in the standard package. You must purchase the compatible external power supply separately (CLCON-PWRSUPPLY: 24Vdc, 2,5A, DIN rail mounting). You can also use the power supply from SMA Sunny WebBox, SMA Cluster Controller, SMA Com Gateway or SMA Inverter Manager, provided they comply with the electrical specifications of the Data Manager M.
Can I connect non-SMA inverters to the EDMM-20?
Yes, partially. The EDMM-20 supports third-party inverters compatible with the Modbus SunSpec protocol via RS485 or LAN connection. Feature availability (monitoring only vs. full control) depends on the protocol compatibility of the connected device. For an up-to-date list of supported third-party devices, refer to SMA documentation.
How many Data Manager M EDMM-20 units can I use in a plant?
You can use multiple EDMM-20 units in cascade for plants with more than 50 devices. One Data Manager M must be configured as the primary System Manager, while the others are set as secondary System Managers in control mode. The I/O systems must be connected to the secondary Data Managers for managing control signals.
Does the EDMM-20 replace the SMA Cluster Controller?
Yes. SMA Data Manager M (EDMM-20 and EDMM-10) is the official successor to the SMA Cluster Controller. The two products are not compatible with each other and cannot be connected on the same network. For plants still using the Cluster Controller, SMA recommends a gradual migration to the Data Manager M to access advanced ennexOS features.
Is Sunny Portal ennexOS included or does it require a subscription?
Basic access to Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS for plant monitoring is included at no additional cost with the purchase of the EDMM-20. Advanced features such as custom reports, multi-plant management for large portfolios and API integrations may require paid plans. Check the SMA website for the latest details on subscription options.
