The SolarEdge SE-MTR-240-1PC1-DWMW is the single-phase inline energy meter of the SolarEdge Home family: it measures production, consumption, import and export with built-in current transformers and talks to the inverter without cables, over the SolarEdge Energy Net.

No external CTs, no RS485 run across the panel

This is why it exists. A traditional energy meter needs two things that cost time on site: current transformers to clamp around the line conductors and a shielded RS485 run to the inverter, which is often at the other end of the building. This meter removes both: the CTs are inside the device — the line passes straight through it up to 65 A — and communication is wireless over Energy Net. It takes the space of an ordinary DIN-rail device in the existing panel.

RS485 remains available as a wired alternative, useful when the enclosure is metallic or too far away for a reliable radio link.

The one thing to check before ordering

Wireless communication requires an inverter that supports the Energy Net. On SolarEdge units the part number says it: codes containing BE indicate an inverter that is already prepared and only needs the ENET-HBNP-01 plug-in module; codes containing BN indicate an inverter that is not prepared and requires the kit with the ENET-HBCL-01 communication board. Inverters with a display have dedicated kits per family. It is a five-minute check on the part number that avoids discovering on site that the meter cannot be seen.

What the meter actually enables

Without a measurement at the point of delivery, the inverter has no idea how much the building is consuming: it can produce, but it cannot decide. With the meter installed, export limitation becomes possible when the grid operator requires it, battery management can follow real consumption instead of an estimate, loads can be started when there is surplus, and production and consumption appear separately in the monitoring portal. It is a component costing a few hundred euros that determines how much of the system is actually used.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on a three-phase system?

No. This version is single-phase only. Three-phase networks — and single-phase ones too, which it also supports — require the three-phase version, which measures L1, L2, L3 and neutral on a 230/400 V wye network.

What if the line exceeds 65 A?

Above that current this device cannot be used: the connection is direct, the line physically passes through the meter and the limit is absolute. Higher currents require an energy meter with external current transformers. With a 6 kW single-phase domestic supply, worth about 27 A, 65 A leaves ample margin.

Is the wireless link reliable?

In most domestic installations yes, which is why SolarEdge adopted it instead of cable. In difficult cases — closed metal enclosure, inverter in a distant room, reinforced concrete walls — the SE-ANT-ENET-HB-01 external antenna kit is available separately, or you can fall back on wired RS485.

Can it be installed outdoors?

No. The protection rating is IP51: the device is designed to sit inside an electrical enclosure. If the enclosure is outdoors, weather protection must come from the enclosure itself.

Do I need an electrician?

Yes. Installation involves the main supply line, with current flowing directly through the device: it must be carried out by a qualified installer, who issues the declaration of conformity. Configuration afterwards takes a few minutes from the app.
