The Solax Pocket WiFi+LAN is Solax Power’s dual-mode monitoring dongle: a single device that supports both 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection and Ethernet (LAN) connection, chosen by the installer at the time of installation based on the system’s conditions. It is the most flexible solution in the Pocket range for connecting Solax inverters to the SolaxCloud platform, with live monitoring every 10 seconds, offline storage, and support for Modbus TCP / IEEE 2030.5.

Why choose a dual-mode WiFi+LAN dongle?

In many photovoltaic systems, the inverter’s Wi-Fi coverage is uncertain: too far from the router, load-bearing walls, installations in basements or sheds. The Pocket WiFi+LAN eliminates the risk of choosing the wrong dongle during the site survey: you buy a single accessory and decide on-site whether to connect via Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz home network) or via Ethernet cable (more stable and immune to interference). This is a solution that professional installers appreciate for the single inventory and the absence of “second trips” to the site.

Compatible Solax Inverters

The Pocket WiFi+LAN is compatible with most new generation Solax inverters, both residential and commercial:

  • Single-phase string inverters: X1-Mini G3.1, X1-Boost G3.3
  • Three-phase string inverters: X3-MIC G2, X3-Pro G2, X3-Mega G2, X3-Forth
  • Single-phase hybrid inverters: X1-Hybrid G4.1 (D version only)
  • Three-phase hybrid inverters: X3-Hybrid G4.2 (D version only)
  • Retrofit inverters: X1-FIT G4, X3-FIT G4

For older inverters or specific variants, check compatibility with the official Solax datasheet or request support from the MR WATT technical team.

Wi-Fi mode: when to prefer it

Wi-Fi mode is the simplest to install: screw in the antenna, insert the dongle into the inverter’s DONGLE port, and configure the network from the SolaxCloud app. It is ideal when the home router is within 20 meters of the inverter with no load-bearing walls in between, or within 100 meters in open space. If the signal is weak, you can add a Wi-Fi range extender.

LAN mode: when to prefer it

Ethernet mode is recommended in all scenarios where connection stability is critical: commercial systems, systems using Modbus TCP to integrate with energy management software (EMS/BMS), inverters installed in areas with Wi-Fi saturation (apartment buildings, industrial warehouses), or when you want to avoid any risk of disconnection. It requires an RJ45 connector wired to the router/switch.

SolaxCloud functions enabled by the dongle

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the Pocket WiFi+LAN in both Wi-Fi and LAN modes at the same time?

No. The dongle can operate in only one mode at a time: either Wi-Fi (with the antenna screwed in) or LAN (with the waterproof RJ45 connector). The choice is made physically during installation. The advantage over single-mode dongles is that you can switch modes at any time without buying a new accessory: for example, switch from Wi-Fi to LAN if the wireless connection proves unstable.

What is the difference between Pocket WiFi+LAN and Pocket WiFi 3.0 Plus?

The Pocket WiFi 3.0 Plus is Wi-Fi only: great if wireless coverage is already guaranteed. The Pocket WiFi+LAN is dual-mode, so it also supports Ethernet. The monitoring functions are identical (live 10 sec, Modbus TCP, IEEE 2030.5, offline storage). Dual-mode is preferable for installers who want a single stock reference or for systems where connectivity is uncertain.

How far from the inverter can I place the Wi-Fi router?

In open space the maximum Wi-Fi distance is 100 meters. If there is at least one load-bearing wall between the router and the inverter, the useful distance drops to about 20 meters. If the signal is weak, it is advisable to install a Wi-Fi amplifier halfway or switch to wired LAN mode, which is immune to interference.

Does it work with 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks?

No. The Pocket WiFi+LAN operates only on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. If the home router is dual-band, you need to enable the 2.4 GHz network and connect to it during configuration. Alternatively, you can use LAN mode, which is independent of Wi-Fi.

Does the Pocket WiFi+LAN support Modbus TCP?

Yes. The dongle exposes inverter data via Modbus TCP and supports the IEEE 2030.5 (SunSpec) protocol: this allows integration of the inverter with third-party energy management systems (EMS), commercial BMS, advanced home automation, and industrial gateways. LAN mode is particularly recommended in these scenarios to ensure maximum connection stability.

Can I install it outdoors?

Yes. The Pocket WiFi+LAN has an IP65 protection rating and a very wide operating temperature range (-35 °C ÷ +60 °C), so it is suitable for outdoor installations even in harsh climates. For LAN mode, a waterproof RJ45 connector is included to protect the Ethernet cable entry point.
