The Solax Pocket LAN 2.0 is Solax Power’s previous-generation Ethernet monitoring dongle, designed for legacy Solax inverters for which the Pocket LAN 3.0 model is not the native replacement. It is the correct solution when you need to replace a faulty dongle on a Solax system installed with older generation inverters, or to add SolaxCloud monitoring to an existing system compatible with this version.

When should you choose the Pocket LAN 2.0?

The Pocket LAN 2.0 is the right choice in three main scenarios:

  • Replacement of a faulty LAN 2.0 dongle on an already installed system — like-for-like replacement ensures full compatibility
  • Adding wired monitoring to a previous-generation Solax inverter (e.g. X1-Hybrid G3, X3-Hybrid G3) for which the 3.0 may not be supported
  • Operational continuity in multi-inverter installations where all other systems already use the 2.0 and you want to maintain uniformity

For new systems or for current series Solax inverters (X1-Mini G3.1, X1-Boost G3.3, X3-MIC G2, X3-Pro G2, X3-Mega G2, X3-Forth, X1/X3-Hybrid G4 version D, X1/X3-FIT G4) the correct choice is the Pocket LAN 3.0, which supports Modbus TCP, IEEE 2030.5, and 10-second live monitoring.

What the LAN dongle allows you to do

Once installed and configured in the SolaxCloud app, the Pocket LAN 2.0 enables:

  • Real-time monitoring of photovoltaic production and self-consumption
  • Energy history viewable by day, month, year
  • Automatic alerts via app/email in case of fault or anomaly
  • Remote firmware updates for the inverter
  • Parameter configuration and warranty management

Advanced features such as Modbus TCP and IEEE 2030.5 are available on newer models (Pocket LAN 3.0, WiFi+LAN, WiFi 3.0 Plus) — check your inverter’s specifications before purchasing if these integrations are critical.

Installation

Installation is plug & play: first, disconnect power to the inverter (wait 5 minutes), remove the cap from the DONGLE port at the bottom of the inverter, insert the Pocket LAN 2.0 making sure to align the QR code, connect the Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port and the other end to the router/switch. Then download the SolaxCloud app, create an account, and register the device by following the guided procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need the Pocket LAN 2.0 or 3.0?

The simplest criterion is the generation of your Solax inverter. If you have a current series inverter (X1-Mini G3.1, X1-Boost G3.3, X3-MIC G2, X3-Pro G2, X3-Mega G2, X3-Forth, X1/X3-Hybrid G4 version D, X1/X3-FIT G4), choose the 3.0. If you need to replace a faulty 2.0 dongle on an existing system, or if you have a previous-generation Solax inverter, choose the 2.0. If in doubt, contact the MR WATT technical team with the exact model of your inverter.

Is the Pocket LAN 2.0 still supported by SolaxCloud?

Yes. The 2.0 dongle continues to be supported by the SolaxCloud platform for monitoring compatible inverters. The basic functions (production monitoring, alerts, history, firmware updates) are fully operational. The advanced functions introduced with generation 3.0 (10-second live, Modbus TCP, IEEE 2030.5) are not available on this model.

What Ethernet cable do I need?

A standard category 5e or higher Ethernet cable with RJ45 connector. For outdoor installations, a shielded cable (FTP/STP) with UV-resistant sheath is recommended to protect it from sun exposure.

Can I install it outdoors?

Yes. The Pocket LAN 2.0 has an IP65 protection rating, suitable for indoor and outdoor installation. For outdoor installations, it is advisable to protect the Ethernet cable entry point with a waterproof connector or dedicated cable gland.

Can I switch from Pocket WiFi to Pocket LAN on the same inverter?

Yes. The dongle is inserted into the DONGLE port of the inverter and is interchangeable: you can replace a Pocket WiFi with a Pocket LAN 2.0 (or vice versa) without modifying the inverter. However, you will need to re-register the device in the SolaxCloud app, as the new dongle has a different Registration Number.
