ZCS 50A split-core CT for single-phase Caro
Split-core current transformer (CT), 16 mm, 50 A, 2000:1 ratio, for the single-phase ZCS Caro wallbox. It measures household consumption so the wallbox can charge without tripping the main breaker. Part number ZVM-CARO-TA.
The ZCS Azzurro ZVM-CARO-TA is the split-core current sensor that lets the single-phase Caro wallbox know the home's consumption in real time. It clamps around the phase conductor of the main line, measures up to 50 A and allows the wallbox to reduce the charging current when other loads switch on in the house.
The most common case: a home with a small supply
Many homes have a single-phase supply with limited contracted power. A 7.4 kW wallbox on its own can already exceed the available power: without control, as soon as the oven or washing machine starts the main breaker or supply limiter trips and the house goes dark. With the CT the wallbox charges with the power that is left, at full rate when the home uses little, for example at night. It is the cheapest way to charge at home without immediately increasing the contracted power.

How it is installed
- The CT opens and closes around the phase conductor only of the main line, after the utility meter: never clamp the whole cable with phase and neutral together, or the currents cancel out and the reading is zero.
- Respect the mounting direction marked on the CT body.
- The 16 mm window fits the conductors typical of household supplies.
- The CT lead has to reach the wallbox: plan its route at design stage.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an electrician to fit it?
Yes. Even though the CT does not require opening the line, the work is done on the main board and must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Does it work with the three-phase Caro wallbox?
No, three-phase Caro models need the ZVM-CARO-METER-01 (direct connection, 80 A) or ZVM-CARO-METER-02 (with 3 CTs, 150 A), which measure all three phases.
Why 50 A if my supply is small?
50 A is the sensor's maximum range: it covers all single-phase household supplies with a wide margin.
Does the CT make charging slower?
Only when the home draws a lot. At night, when consumption is low, the wallbox uses almost all the available power: with 6 kW available you add about 5 kWh per hour, 25-30 km of range.
Can it be used with solar PV?
The CT measures current where it is installed. On the main line it sees the balance between consumption and production; how charging responds to PV depends on the functions configured on the wallbox.
