The SMA HS-TC-10 is the original top cover for SMA Home Storage battery towers. It closes the highest module in the stack, hides the connections and provides integrated cable glands to route the cables out in the most convenient direction. It snaps into place without screws or additional brackets.
One per tower, not one per system
It is the detail you discover at delivery: the cover is needed for each battery tower, not for each system. A 5-module HS-BM-3.28-10 system, the maximum 16.4 kWh configuration, is built on two towers (3+2 modules) and therefore requires two HS-TC-10. With a single tower, up to 3 modules, one is enough.

Is it really needed?
From a functional standpoint, no: the battery works exactly the same way with or without the cover, and the protection rating of the modules does not depend on this component. It makes sense in two concrete situations: when the storage is installed in a visible environment (habitable garage, taverna, technical room visited by customers) and the finish matters, and when you want to route the cables neatly instead of leaving them exposed on top of the last module. In a closed technical room it is an expense that can be postponed.

Is the cover necessary for the battery to work?
No. It is an aesthetic and cable-management element. SMA Home Storage modules work and keep their protection rating even without the top cover, which remains an optional accessory.
How many are needed for a 16.4 kWh system?
Two, because the maximum 5-module configuration is built on two separate towers (3+2) and each tower must be closed individually. The same applies to the 4-module configuration on two towers of 2.
How is it fixed?
It is snapped into place onto the highest battery module, without screws or additional fastening elements. The cable-routing openings are already provided and only the necessary ones are used.
Can I add it after installation?
Yes, at any time. It does not require dismantling the tower or working on the connections: it rests on the top module and snaps in. It is the accessory typically added when tidying up the technical room after commissioning.
Is it fine even if I add modules in the future?
The cover is moved to the new top module when the tower grows. If instead the expansion creates a second tower, one more cover is needed: SMA allows capacity expansion within two years of the first installation, and that is the moment to also review the accessories.
