The Vivax Y Design Air Conditioner 12000 BTU 3.5 kW (model ACP-12CH35AEYIs R32) is a wall-mounted single-split inverter heat pump air conditioner: it cools with 3.52 kW (12000 BTU) and heats with 4.25 kW nominal.

Y Design is Vivax's cold-climate air conditioner: it heats down to -32 °C outdoors, according to the manufacturer keeps 100% of its heating capacity down to -15 °C, and reaches class A+++ in both cooling and heating (SEER 9.2, SCOP 5.3).

The 12000 BTU size roughly covers rooms of 25-35 m², such as an apartment living room or a large bedroom. Correct sizing always depends on insulation, orientation and glazed area.

Why pair it with solar PV

Cooling demand peaks in the middle of summer days, exactly when PV modules produce the most. An inverter air conditioner modulates compressor power instead of cycling on and off, so it follows rooftop production and uses self-generated energy instead of drawing it from the grid.

Y Design stays efficient in winter: the EU product fiche declares SCOP 4.2 for the colder climate season, so every kWh produced by your modules on a sunny winter day becomes more than 4 kWh of heat indoors. With a battery storage system, surplus daytime energy also runs the air conditioner in the evening.

Installation and what to know before buying

  • The refrigerant circuit must be connected by an F-gas certified technician or company, as required by Regulation (EU) 2024/573.
  • The supply includes the indoor unit, outdoor unit and remote control. Copper pipes, brackets and installation material must be planned separately unless stated otherwise in the order.
  • Pipe diameters, maximum lengths and height differences are given in the installation manual: check them before the site survey.
  • Single-phase 220-240 V supply: for the larger sizes the installer assesses a dedicated line with suitable protection.

Frequently asked questions

Does it really heat down to -32 °C?

Yes, -32 °C is the heating operating limit declared by the manufacturer, which states 100% of heating capacity down to -15 °C. Below that, output gradually decreases: in mountain areas size it on the colder-season design load, which the EU fiche sets at 3.7 kW.

How many square metres does a 12000 BTU air conditioner cover?

Roughly 25-35 m² with average insulation and standard ceiling height. Heavily glazed rooms, attics or south-west facing spaces need more capacity: if in doubt, ask the installer for a heat load calculation.

Can it be connected to a solar PV system?

No special connection is needed: the air conditioner is a normal household load. Thanks to the inverter it draws power continuously and in a modulated way, so during sunny hours it mainly uses the energy from your modules. To maximise self-consumption, schedule operation in the middle of the day, also from the app with the Wi-Fi module.

Can I install it myself?

No. The units must be connected with refrigerant piping by F-gas certified technicians: this is required by Regulation (EU) 2024/573 and is a condition for the warranty. The technician also performs evacuation, leak testing and commissioning.

How does the 60-month warranty work?

The supplier declares a 60-month warranty. As with most air conditioners, coverage assumes installation by a qualified technician and documented periodic maintenance: keep the installation certificate and service receipts.
