The Vivax R+ Design Air Conditioner 12000 BTU 3.5 kW Silver Mirror (model ACP-12CH35AERI+ R32) is a wall-mounted single-split inverter heat pump air conditioner: it cools with 3.52 kW (12000 BTU) and heats with 3.81 kW nominal.

The R+ Design series is the evolution of the R Design: the outdoor unit has anti-freeze heaters on the compressor and base pan, and the heat pump keeps heating down to -25 °C outdoors. It comes in five front finishes with identical performance.

The silver mirror front reflects the room and makes the indoor unit look lighter: a choice for minimalist interiors and glossy surfaces. The 12000 BTU size roughly covers rooms of 25-35 m², such as an apartment living room or a large bedroom. Correct sizing always depends on insulation, orientation and glazed area.

Why pair it with solar PV

Cooling demand peaks in the middle of summer days, exactly when PV modules produce the most. An inverter air conditioner modulates compressor power instead of cycling on and off, so it follows rooftop production and uses self-generated energy instead of drawing it from the grid.

At nominal cooling capacity this model draws about 977 W of electricity: covering it in full sun takes roughly at least 1.5 kWp of dedicated modules, on top of the rest of the household load. With a battery storage system, surplus daytime energy also runs the air conditioner in the evening.

Installation and what to know before buying

  • The refrigerant circuit must be connected by an F-gas certified technician or company, as required by Regulation (EU) 2024/573.
  • The supply includes the indoor unit, outdoor unit and remote control. Copper pipes, brackets and installation material must be planned separately unless stated otherwise in the order.
  • Piping: liquid 1/4", gas 3/8"; maximum length 25 m, maximum height difference 10 m; the first 5 m are covered by the factory charge, beyond that add 12 g/m of R32.
  • Single-phase 220-240 V supply: for the larger sizes the installer assesses a dedicated line with suitable protection.

Frequently asked questions

How many square metres does a 12000 BTU air conditioner cover?

Roughly 25-35 m² with average insulation and standard ceiling height. Heavily glazed rooms, attics or south-west facing spaces need more capacity: if in doubt, ask the installer for a heat load calculation.

What changes between the R+ Design finishes?

Only the front of the indoor unit. The EU product fiche registers white, silver, silver mirror, gold and red under the same model identifier, with the same capacities, energy class and SEER/SCOP: you choose based on your interior.

Can it be connected to a solar PV system?

No special connection is needed: the air conditioner is a normal household load. Thanks to the inverter it draws power continuously and in a modulated way, so during sunny hours it mainly uses the energy from your modules. To maximise self-consumption, schedule operation in the middle of the day, also from the app with the Wi-Fi module.

What do SEER 8.5 and SCOP 4.6 mean?

They are seasonal efficiencies: SEER shows how many kWh of cooling the unit produces per kWh of electricity over the summer, SCOP how many kWh of heat over the reference winter. The higher they are, the lower the bill for the same comfort.

Can I install it myself?

No. The units must be connected with refrigerant piping by F-gas certified technicians: this is required by Regulation (EU) 2024/573 and is a condition for the warranty. The technician also performs evacuation, leak testing and commissioning.
