The Huawei SUN2000-8K-MAP0 hybrid inverter is an 8 kW three-phase inverter from the MAP0 series, with 2 MPPTs and a dedicated battery input for Huawei LUNA2000 storage. It accepts up to 14.6 kWp of modules, delivers up to 8.8 kVA and can distribute power fully unbalanced across the three phases. IP66 protection and passive cooling allow outdoor installation.

Why choose an 8 kW MAP0 three-phase hybrid?

In three-phase homes the loads are rarely spread evenly: induction hob on one phase, heat pump on another, wallbox on the third. Many three-phase inverters deliver the same power on every phase, so surplus on one phase cannot cover consumption on another. The MAP0 series supports 100% unbalanced load: output follows actual consumption phase by phase, raising self-consumption without adding modules or batteries.

With the optional SmartGuard-63A-T0 the same unit provides three-phase whole-home backup, not just a dedicated line for critical loads.

Modern modules and the 16 A per MPPT limit

This is the most overlooked design check. Latest TOPCon and HJT modules have short-circuit currents of 15-18 A and operating currents of 13-17 A. The SUN2000-8K-MAP0 tolerates up to 22 A short-circuit, so the connection is safe, but above 16 A operating current per MPPT the excess is clipped. With modules at 14-15 A Imp there is no loss; with higher-current modules you accept minor clipping at peak hours. Check the module datasheet before defining the strings.

Grid protection requirements

Interface protection rules depend on the national grid code. In Italy, the 8 kW size stays below the 11.08 kW threshold of the CEI 0-21 standard, so the inverter's integrated interface protection can be used without an external panel, provided the distributor receives the required declaration of conformity. In other countries, check the requirements with your grid operator.

What is included and what to order separately

  • Included: SUN2000-8K-MAP0 hybrid inverter with mounting kit and connectors
  • Separately: Smart Dongle WLAN-FE or 4G for FusionSolar monitoring (not needed if EMMA or SmartGuard is installed)
  • Separately: LUNA2000 batteries, the Huawei power meter for storage and grid-flow management, and SmartGuard-63A-T0 for whole-home backup

What can you do with it day to day?

With 8 kW output and 8.8 kW of battery discharge, in the evening you can run heat pump, oven and dishwasher together from storage without the inverter becoming the bottleneck. Paired with a 10 kWh LUNA2000, a family of four in an electrified home typically covers evening and night consumption in good production seasons.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SUN2000-8K-MAP0 and the M1 series?

The MAP0 supports 100% unbalanced load across phases, three-phase whole-home backup with SmartGuard, AFCI arc protection and IP66 rating. The older M1 series delivers balanced power across phases and is rated IP65. Both are three-phase and compatible with LUNA2000 batteries.

Can I add the battery later?

Yes. The battery input is already on the inverter: LUNA2000 S0 or S1 batteries can be connected years later, without replacing the inverter or adding conversion devices.

How many modules can I connect?

Huawei recommends up to 14,600 Wp of PV, about 1.8 times the AC power: for example 32 modules of 450 W on two strings, as long as open-circuit voltage at low temperature stays below 1,100 V and operating current per string below 16 A.

Does it work during a blackout?

Yes, with a LUNA2000 battery and SmartGuard-63A-T0: SmartGuard isolates the house from the grid and the inverter supplies all three phases from storage and PV. Without SmartGuard the inverter, like all grid-tied inverters, shuts down for safety when the grid fails.

Is monitoring included?

The FusionSolar app is free, but the inverter ships without a communication module: you need the WLAN-FE or 4G Smart Dongle, unless EMMA or SmartGuard is part of the system, as they also provide that function.
