Alfen Active Load Balancing Licence 905661011

Alfen 905661011 Active Load Balancing (ALB) software licence enables dynamic EV charging control using a compatible external meter or measurement system. The charger automatically adjusts the available current to prevent overloads; compatibility verification and installer configuration are required.

The Alfen 905661011 Active Load Balancing (ALB) licence enables dynamic load management on a compatible Alfen charging station. An external meter or measurement system monitors the installation’s consumption, allowing the charger to adjust the current available to the electric vehicle in real time: charging is reduced when other loads rise and increased when power becomes available again.

Why use Alfen Active Load Balancing?

Active Load Balancing helps use the available electrical capacity without exceeding the limit configured for the installation. It is useful in homes, apartment buildings, offices, commercial sites and fleets where EV charging shares the supply with heat pumps, air conditioning, machinery or other loads. The function does not increase the contracted capacity; it distributes it more intelligently and reduces the risk of overload-related disconnections.

Compatibility and requirements before purchase

Before ordering, check the charging-station model, serial number, firmware and measurement system. The feature licence must be unlocked on a compatible station, and the installer must configure the data source, maximum current and safe current. The external meter, wiring and electrical installation work are not included unless expressly stated in the order.

What does the licence include?

  • Activation of the Alfen Active Load Balancing feature for the compatible station.
  • The licence key or unlocking procedure associated with the ordered configuration.
  • Information needed by the installer to complete activation.

The licence does not replace a smart meter and does not include a charging station. If in doubt, provide MR WATT with the model, serial number and firmware version before purchase.

How is Active Load Balancing activated?

  • Check station compatibility and update its firmware when required.
  • Unlock the feature key on the charging station.
  • Select the external meter or measurement system as the data source.
  • Set the maximum current and safe current.
  • Save the configuration and restart the station.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between ALB 905661011 and SLB 905661010?

ALB measures the consumption of the entire installation through an external meter or system and dynamically changes the power available for charging. SLB distributes power between the two sockets of the same Alfen Double station and does not by itself monitor all other building loads.

Is licence 905661011 compatible with every Alfen charger?

No. Compatibility depends on the charging-station model, hardware and firmware. Before purchase, verify the serial number, firmware version and intended meter with MR WATT or the installer.

Which meter is required for Alfen Active Load Balancing?

A meter or measurement system supported by the specific charger and configuration is required. Depending on the model, Alfen supports external meters using Modbus TCP/IP or dedicated smart-meter protocols. Check the charger and meter manuals to select the correct protocol.

What happens if I switch on an oven or heat pump while the car is charging?

The system detects the rise in consumption and reduces charger current to remain within the configured limit. When the other loads fall, the power assigned to the car can increase again. The result depends on the available capacity and the values set by the installer.

Can ALB be combined with a Smart Charging Network?

Yes. Alfen supports combining ALB with Smart Charging Network to make the power available to several stations dynamic. Only one station in the network is configured for ALB, and the remaining capacity is distributed among the connected charging points.
