The Alfen 905661011 – Active Load Balancing (ALB) software configuration is the advanced license that unlocks active load balancing on compatible Alfen charging stations. Thanks to an external smart meter connected to the wallbox, ALB constantly monitors the consumption of the entire installation and adjusts in real time the power available for vehicle charging, preventing the meter limits from being exceeded and ensuring intelligent energy distribution.

How does Active Load Balancing work?

With ALB enabled, the Alfen charging station continuously measures the system load via the smart meter connected to the wallbox’s P1 port. If other users in the home or industrial facility consume energy, the power allocated to EV charging is automatically reduced so as not to exceed the meter threshold. When the load decreases, charging receives more power and speeds up. Everything happens without manual intervention.

When is code 905661011 required?

The ALB license is essential in any installation where EV charging may conflict with other electrical loads in the system. It is recommended for residential homes with a single supply, offices and warehouses with limited contracted power, condominium installations, and corporate fleets. Without ALB, during consumption peaks the wallbox would continue charging at maximum power, risking the meter tripping or tariff penalties.

How is code 905661011 activated?

The license is configured by the installer via ACE Service Installer or the MyEve app. In the Smart Charging / Active Load Balancing section, the function and meter parameters are enabled (source type, inclusion or exclusion of EV consumption in the reading). Once the configuration is saved, the device restarts and balancing is operational.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between ALB (905661011) and SLB (905661010)?

Active Load Balancing (ALB, code 905661011) measures the consumption of the entire installation via an external smart meter and dynamically limits the wallbox power to prevent system overload. Standard Load Balancing (SLB, code 905661010) instead balances the load only between the 2 sockets of the same Alfen Double charger, without the need for an external meter.

What type of smart meter is needed for code 905661011?

The Alfen wallbox with ALB supports smart meters with P1 port or Modbus. The meter must be physically connected to the station’s P1 port via a data cable. Consult the Alfen technical manual or contact MR WATT to verify compatibility with your existing meter.

Is ALB compatible with photovoltaic systems?

Yes. Active Load Balancing can be integrated with photovoltaic systems via an Energy Management System (EMS). In this scenario, ALB uses the EMS signal to optimize charging based on available solar production, maximizing photovoltaic self-consumption while charging the electric vehicle.

Can I combine code 905661011 with the Smart Charging Network?

Yes. ALB can be combined with the Smart Charging Network (SCN) to manage multiple chargers on a network with dynamically available power. In an SCN network with ALB, only one charger is configured as the ALB master, and the remaining power is distributed to the other nodes on the network.

Is a certified technician required to activate code 905661011?

Yes. Configuration requires installer credentials to access the Alfen ACE Service Installer. MR WATT can support the installer in the activation procedure by providing the license and the necessary technical instructions.
